DeSalvio Travel Experiences FAQ

Why can a private guide change my experience of a destination?

The right guide does more than explain what you are seeing. They understand your interests and know how to bring a destination to life.

A historian, art specialist and gastronome may approach the same city in completely different ways. We therefore consider both expertise and personality when choosing guides.

How do I find meaningful cultural experiences?

Start with what genuinely interests you rather than with a list of famous attractions.

Once we understand whether you are interested in art, history, architecture, music, food or something else, we can look for experiences and local specialists that fit those interests.

How do you find local guides and experts?

We work with destination management companies, guides and local specialists and take the time to understand how they work before recommending them.

A partner being knowledgeable is important, but so is determining whether they are the right person for a particular client.

How do you know whether an experience is genuinely worthwhile?

We look at more than whether an experience sounds impressive. Price and value matter as well.

There are expensive experiences that we would not recommend to our clients because we do not believe they provide sufficient value. Part of our role is to filter what is available and tell you when we think something is not worth the money.

Can a travel advisor arrange experiences that aren't publicly advertised?

Sometimes. Certain experiences depend on relationships with guides, local specialists, hotels or other partners rather than being something you can simply book online.

Where possible, we also work with our guides to adapt an experience around the client's interests rather than simply providing a standard tour.

Can a travel advisor arrange private museum or cultural experiences?

Often, yes. Depending on the institution and local availability, private visits, specialist guides, after-hours experiences and other forms of special access can sometimes be arranged.

The aim is not simply to avoid a queue. The right specialist can make the cultural experience much more meaningful.

How do I plan a food-focused trip?

We can build food and gastronomy into the trip according to your interests, from restaurants and local specialties to experiences connected with the culture of a destination.

Robert has a longstanding interest in gastronomy and cooking and has spent considerable time around people working at a high culinary level.

How can I experience art while traveling?

That depends entirely on what interests you. It might mean major museums and historic sites, smaller private collections, exhibitions, special events or concert experiences.

We choose the cultural experiences around the client rather than treating every destination as though it requires the same sightseeing list.

How do I balance planned experiences with free time?

A good itinerary needs both.

We want clients to experience a destination without feeling that every hour has been scheduled. The right balance depends on the traveler, but protecting time for rest and independent exploration is an important part of the planning process.

How do I make a trip feel personal rather than like a standard tour?

Tell us what genuinely interests you, including what you do not enjoy.

That gives us the information needed to select the right hotels, guides and experiences and to shape the pace of the trip around you rather than simply reproducing a standard itinerary.
