Mandarin Lutetia: Modern Luxury on the Left Bank
A Different Kind of Paris Palace
The first impression was simple: this is a gorgeous palace hotel. But it does not feel like the other grand hotels of Paris. The Mandarin approach has brought a very modern, polished feeling to Lutetia, and that makes it particularly interesting for travelers who want luxury without feeling as though they have stepped into an 18th-century French palace.
The service was immediately excellent. Julien, the head of Sales, was already waiting for us at the entrance even though we were five minutes early. That level of attention continued throughout our visit.
The building itself still has a strong sense of Lutetia. The boat-shaped architecture is a clever reminder of the hotel's identity, while the original Art Nouveau and Art Deco details have been carefully retained. The ceilings in the bar are particularly beautiful. There is also a Pleyel grand piano, which brings a very natural Parisian connection to the space.

Rooms That Feel Like Paris
The rooms have a very clean, modern look, with beautiful natural light. What I liked most was that they do not try to recreate historical Paris. Instead, they make you feel that you are actually in Paris now.
That gives the rooms a different character from properties such as Rosewood or the Four Seasons, where the French-inspired interiors can make you feel as though you have stepped back into another period. Both approaches work. It simply depends on how you want your Paris to feel.
The Mandarin bathrooms remain a particular favourite of ours. The marble is beautiful, the products are excellent, and the robes are exactly what we have come to expect from the brand.
The penthouse suites were the ones I particularly loved. They have extraordinary natural light and feel much more like a beautifully designed private home than a traditional hotel room. The bathroom alone made me wish I had something similar at home.

Paris Outside the Tourist Centre
The location is one of the strongest parts of Lutetia. It is on the Left Bank, in a quieter and very wealthy part of Paris, away from the heaviest concentration of tourists. At the same time, you can walk to many places within about 30 minutes, while the metro entrance is directly in front of the hotel.
There is also a open local market nearby, and the neighbourhood still feels lived in. Across from the Lutetia is the famous Bon Marche, which initiated the idea of having the Lutetia Palace hotel built. Government buildings and embassies are close by as well which immediately gives a secure and calm feel of the upper class area.
We had lunch at the brasserie and what stood out was not simply the food, although the food was of an excellent standard. It was seeing so many local Parisians eating there. For me, that is an important test of a hotel restaurant. It should belong to the neighbourhood, not only to the people staying upstairs.
The team also showed us just how far their personalisation can go. Julien told us about a local woman who regularly walks her dog around the hotel, which became the mascotte of the hotel. This relationship developed to the point that the pastry and chocolate team created a 'Harry Potter' version of the dog for a young guest who loved Harry Potter. That is the kind of detail that goes well beyond standard luxury service.

The Lutetia Character Remains
We visited just after the White Lotus production had taken over the hotel for three weeks to film its bar and hotel scenes. Having seen the property ourselves, it made perfect sense. The preserved Art Deco character gives Lutetia an old-world Hollywood glamour that is very different from the more traditionally French interiors of some of Paris's other palace hotels.
That is really where the hotel sits for me. It is Lutetia, with more than a century of history behind it, but it has been given a distinctly modern interpretation.
If someone wants an authentic 18th-century French palace atmosphere, this would not be my first choice. If they want a sleek, comfortable base on the Left Bank, with excellent service and a quieter position in the city, it makes much more sense.
And then there was Julien's photograph of us from the highest level of the hotel, with the Eiffel Tower behind us. It was an unusual angle of Paris, and one we certainly would not have found ourselves.

The Virtuoso Advantage
For Virtuoso travelers in 2026, there are several useful extras that make the stay even more attractive. Guests receive an upgrade on arrival, subject to availability, as well as daily buffet breakfast for up to two guests per bedroom, either in the restaurant or through in-room dining. There is also a $100 USD hotel credit to use during the stay, although it cannot be combined with other offers or applied to the room rate.
For clients booking a Deluxe or Signature Suite, the benefits go a step further with a complimentary private round-trip airport transfer. Early check-in and late check-out are also available, subject to availability.
For us, these details matter because they make the difference between simply booking a beautiful hotel and having the hotel experience work smoothly from arrival through departure.
